1. Check The Toilet Flush Valve For Cracks Or Decay
A worn flush valve is the most common cause of running water into the bowl. The typical toilet tank (cistern) has a flush valve that provides seals the waiting water into the cistern between flushes. When we flush the toilet, the lift arm raises and pulls the chain attached with a flush valve. Thus allowing water to move towards the bowl to flush away the waste. When enough water has moved out of the tank, the flush valve drops back down and re-seals the tank.
However, if the flush valve or flush valve seal is cracked or has deteriorated, water will keep running into the toilet bowl. In most cases, you will have to replace the flush valve.
2. Check The Chain
While we consider the flush valve defect the most important component it’s not the only cause of this issue. Also, check if the length of the chain between the lift arm and valve is causing it to seal properly. If the chain is too long, it will probably get caught under it but if the chain is too short it will not seal the flush valve.
