A trickling toilet not only creates an irritating sound, it also wastes as much as 200 gallons per day. The main reason behind water continuously running into the toilet pan is usually found in the cistern.
Among other things, the cistern releases water when needed during flushing. So it makes sense to check for an issue here. When water is continuously running into the toilet pan, then the first thing to check is the cistern water level.
→ If it’s 1cm below the vertical pipe (aka overflow pipe), then the water level is okay. This does mean, though, that the problem lies elsewhere. Having a professional plumber find the source of the problem and a solution will avoid more significant problems down the line.
→ If the cistern water level is 1cm higher, then it will need adjusting. When the water levels are too high, excess water spills over into the toilet pan.
Plumber note – Water continuously running into the toilet pan isn’t necessarily a bad thing or something that will cause damage. However, it could be a sign that something is wrong in your homes plumbing system. This is why it’s a good idea to get small problems checked quickly.
→ If the cistern water level is lower than 12mm, then it is too low you must take immediate action.
